Pallet Rack in Port Wentworth, GA

Port Wentworth's GA-21 corridor puts large import buildings close to terminal traffic and interstate access. Rack planning here needs to separate high-volume cross-dock movement from inventory that stays long enough to occupy a storage location. Furniture, home-goods and retail freight can arrive with very different pallet footprints. We specify new pallet rack from those operating loads and arrange the rows around receiving, retrieval and shipping rather than applying one bay size to every item.

    Cross-dock circulation along Highway 21

Savannah River International Trade Park occupies Georgia Ports Authority land with tilt-wall buildings exceeding one million square feet. Terminal East sits at Highway 21 and I-95, while Grange Road contains older big-box space. These locations share near-port access but should not share an assumed rack layout. In a cross-dock building, the paths between receiving doors, staging lanes and outbound freight need to remain clear when inbound volume increases.

Selective racking provides access to individual import stock lines, which matters when furniture or home-goods pallets depart in different combinations. Pallet flow can establish a defined load-to-retrieval sequence for compatible palletized freight. We first measure the load range and daily movement, then compare the storage method. The right arrangement leaves room for trucks to turn at row ends without pushing temporary staging into the operating aisle.

Space planned for large incoming operations

Port Wentworth I-95 Logistics Center covers about 766 industrial acres on Highway 21, 1.5 miles north of I-95 and within seven miles of the Georgia Ports Authority. Cross-dock buildings up to approximately 1.4 million square feet are planned there. A large footprint provides choices, but a useful rack proposal still needs pallet depth per item, lift-truck type and a clear division between reserve inventory and freight moving through the building.

Port Wentworth Commerce Center is a master-planned park of more than ten million square feet, about 6.5 miles from the Port of Savannah, with onsite rail capability. A new signalized GA-21 intersection broke ground in October 2025. Seaboard Coastline / CSX rail runs beside the Highway 21 industrial district. Where rail and truck receipts share a warehouse, the rack brief should describe how each load enters staging before put-away.

Beam loads for furniture and home-goods freight

Pallet dimensions should include the load, not just the wood footprint underneath it. Furniture cartons can extend beyond the pallet edge or arrive at different heights, changing beam spacing and the approach to adjacent loads. We compare the heaviest expected combination of pallets on each beam level with the complete frame arrangement. A capacity choice made from an average pallet weight can miss the load that actually controls the design.

For retail imports, separate fast-moving reserve pallets from stock that requires frequent individual retrieval. Pallet flow lanes need compatible pallets and a defined rotation requirement. Selective rows suit changing SKU profiles because operators do not need to empty a deep lane to reach a particular load. The drawing should make those differences visible, with row lengths and cross aisles that suit the handling equipment.

    Installation around container receiving

Heavy import container flow can change the number of pallets staged before rack put-away. We discuss the busy receiving condition rather than laying out only a quiet-day inventory count. During coastal storms, owners may also need space for restock and staging. Preserve those working zones in the rack plan, and coordinate installation access around the freight that must keep moving.

Warehouse moving services can be planned alongside new racking when an operation transfers into a GA-21 building. Our warehouse relocation page covers that coordination; the selective pallet rack and pallet flow pages explain the two storage approaches in more detail. Bring a dimensioned plan, truck specifications, loaded pallet sizes and the storage count by stock family. Those inputs let the consultation address both the rack material and the order in which the warehouse can put it into service.

Port Wentworth, GA storage options: pallet rack, pushback, pallet flow, drive-in, cantilever and carton flow. Coordinate transfers through our warehouse relocation service.
